BAP Project: “The Role of Public Service Announcements in Raising Awareness in the Fight Against Violence Against Women”

A BAP Project led by Dr. Seyra Kestel, an assistant professor in the Department of Advertising, with Dr. Aydan Ünlükaya Çevirici serving as a researcher, has been awarded funding.

This scientific research project, launched under the auspices of our university’s Center for Gender Studies, Application, and Research, examines the issue of violence against women—one of the most critical areas of struggle in the social sphere—through the lens of communication and awareness. The project is led by Dr. Seyra Kestel, Assistant Director of the Center, while Dr. Aydan Ünlükaya Çevirici, a member of the Center’s Executive Board, serves as a researcher on the project. Designed with an interdisciplinary approach, the study aims to measure the effectiveness of advertisements, which serve as powerful tools in transforming and guiding awareness and social consciousness.

The project aims to conduct an in-depth analysis of the perceptual and behavioral impacts of social advertisements created to combat violence against women on the target audience through university stakeholders (academic staff, administrative staff, and students). The awareness levels of these diverse dynamics within the campus ecosystem will be examined in line with the message strategies of the social advertisements, and the data obtained will lay the groundwork for the project’s practical outcomes.

Officially launched on April 13, 2026, and spanning a 24-month timeline, the project aims to generate added value at both the institutional and academic levels. In this context, based on the empirical findings from the research, a web-based information and guidance module will be developed that directly addresses the needs of university stakeholders and facilitates access to mechanisms for combating violence. Printed and digital guidance materials will be designed to sustain campus-wide awareness and provide integrated support for the digital module. Additionally, the theoretical and practical data obtained during the research process will be published as a scientific article in a peer-reviewed journal indexed in international databases, with the aim of contributing to the academic literature and making it available to the academic community.

This study aims to advance our university’s institutional commitment to gender equality and its mission to generate social benefit by taking these efforts a step further from an academic perspective.
