 Deputy Head of Advertising Department Asst. Prof. İpek Sucu and A Graduate Student Gökhan Çolak's International Book Chapter Has Been Published


The international book chapter titled “The Simpsons Example in the Framework of Conspiracy Theories as Perception Management in the Media and Persuasion Method in Communication” by Asst. Prof. İpek Sucu, Vice President of the Advertising Department, and Gökhan Çolak, a graduate student of the Public Relations and Publicity Department, has been published.


In the article which is in the book named “Communication Studies from A to Z”, Sucu and Çolak discuss how the concept of conspiracy theory emerged within the framework of perception management and persuasion method in communication, how the concept of propaganda is related to conspiracy theories, how the masses of The Simpsons series are in the context of conspiracy theories, it has been examined whether the media has made the content that will cause anxiety and fear in the masses more popular.

Sucu and Çolak, who dealt with the concepts of uncertainty and danger within the scope of the research, revealed that the masses were shaped in line with certain thought patterns, and that today the media is also included in this.
Sucu and Çolak, who found that the perceptions of the masses were managed through The Simpsons series, explained their findings in their articles as follows; “As seen in the example of The Simpsons, it has been observed how the media directs people and the society is affected by the media, media representatives and news. These messages, controlled by organizations, institutions and websites, appear in certain mass media and television programs, news sites, websites, books, movies, and impose on the audience a perception that will take place in the future, laying the groundwork for the feelings of uncertainty and danger in the masses and it is tried to be persuaded by creating fear.”
