TÜBİTAK 1002-A Project Success from the Department of Advertising
The research project titled “Political Memory and Media Agenda in Türkiye (2020–2025): Remembering Social Events, Emotional Encoding, and Attribution of Responsibility According to Gender and Political Orientation,” prepared under the leadership of Assist. Prof. Dr. Seyra Kestel, a faculty member of the Department of Advertising within the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences at İstanbul Gelişim University (İGÜ), has been granted support within the scope of the TÜBİTAK 1002-A Rapid Support Program.
The project, which examines the relationship between collective memory, media agenda, and political perception, aims to reveal how social and political events that attracted widespread public attention in Türkiye between 2020 and 2025 are represented in individuals’ memories. Within the scope of the research, not only which events are remembered but also the emotional reactions individuals develop toward these events, the meanings attributed to the events, and the attributions of responsibility will be evaluated. The study is expected to make significant contributions to the fields of political communication, media effects, and social perception.
Prepared with an interdisciplinary approach, the project includes Research Assistant Ece Demirkapu from the Department of Advertising and Research Assistant Emre Ergen from the Department of Public Relations and Publicity as researchers. By bringing together different academic perspectives, the project team aims to analyze multidimensionally how political memory is shaped through media.
In the first phase of the study, which will be conducted with a mixed-method research design, online surveys will be carried out with adult voters in Istanbul. In the second phase, in-depth interviews will be conducted with participants who have different political orientations and demographic characteristics. Thus, both quantitative and qualitative data will be evaluated together to present a comprehensive analysis.
While İstanbul Gelişim University continues to strengthen its scientific production capacity through projects supported at national and international levels, it also continues to contribute to the academic world through studies that approach social issues from a scientific perspective.
