Being an IGU Student: A Story from Our International Trade and Business Department Students

Dear IGU Family,

 

I am Begüm Şayan Yüksektepe, a 4th-year student in the International Trade and Business Department of the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences at Istanbul Gelisim University. In light of my personal development and the education I have received, I felt the need to write this text to inform you. To get to the main point;

 

First of all, during the pandemic period in our country, we spent part of our undergraduate education remotely. This process was subjected to various criticisms, both within our society and through social media. At the same time, various experts in the press painted a negative picture regarding the disadvantages of distance education for the future. However, our academic staff and personnel at the university have made great efforts to turn this negative situation to our advantage. We, as students, aware that we should contribute our share of the effort and goodwill in order not to abuse this effort and goodwill, have tried to reciprocate diligently and understandingly. During this process; I firmly believe that our academics have done more than their best to help us develop academically, both in and out of class. Our communication, both verbally and in writing, during interactive classes and in other times, has been very productive.

 

Regarding the in-person education process that began after the pandemic, to give an example from my own faculty and department, I have witnessed, both personally and through others, numerous times that our academics were always friendly, tolerant, and well-intentioned towards us during class, and also individually during free time. This positive attitude displayed by our academics and university staff towards us students has positively impacted both our education and our future, leaving a good impression and increasing our motivation.

 

Our university staff, by both engaging with our classes and leading the way, have always made us feel that our future is in safe hands by organizing various internship opportunities, workplace visits, and conferences. Thanks to these activities, the sharing of vast experience and knowledge from experts in the field specific to my department has been the first step in carrying on this legacy in the years to come.

 

Our campus has provided us with access to its social facilities whenever we wanted. Thanks to this, I, and other students at our university, can say that we are a happy and hopeful university youth within the campus, expanding our comfort zones. To summarize briefly, Istanbul Gelişim University has become more than just a university for me.
