Assoc. Prof. Ebru Gül Yılmaz Commented on the Possible Effects of the Burnham Era on UK-Türkiye Trade on EKOTURK TV
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ebru Gül Yılmaz, a guest on EKOTURK TV's Küresel Bakış (Global Outlook) program, discussed how the new era under UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham might affect Turkish foreign trade.
Based on the available data, Yılmaz stated that she does not foresee a serious shift in the UK's foreign trade policy, noting that it appears no changes will be made to borrowing limits or tax regulations in the near term either.Touching on the strategic importance the UK holds for Türkiye, Yılmaz noted that the UK ranks as Türkiye's second-largest export destination and also holds a substantial share of Türkiye's imports.
Recalling that Minister of State Chris Bryant intends to double bilateral trade volume between the two countries in the coming period, Yılmaz pointed out that the UK government is also inclined to protect and support its own producers. She added that even if trade figures do not show a sharp shift in the short term, Türkiye could lose market share in the medium to long term as British producers gradually gain competitiveness.
