Using Drone in Stock Control Prevents Making Mistakes

Evaluating the use of drones, which paves the way for the delivery and stock control technologies of the future, Asst. Prof. Dr. Kadir Mersin stated that the use of drone applications in stock control reduces the error margin to zero during the operation.

Drones, also known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, are used in many areas from cargo delivery to search and rescue activities during the Covid-19 pandemic. Asst. Prof. Dr. Kadir Mersin, a faculty member of the Logistics Management Department at Istanbul Gelisim University, indicated that drones, which started to be used in package delivery, particularly in the 21st century, also play an active role in counting goods in warehouses.

IT REDUCES THE ERROR MARGIN IN INVENTORY COUNT

Drones, which provide great advantages in small package transportation, in rural areas or in logistics processes where urgent and frequent shipments are obligatory, are also quite successful in accelerating and improving the current process.  Asst. Prof. Dr. Kadir Mersin, faculty member of the Logistics Management Department, Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences at Istanbul Gelisim University stated the following:
‘’Inventory control in a warehouse is done by several methods. One of these methods is inspection. In that method, the stock level is periodically observed by an experienced officer. It is a method frequently preferred by small businesses since it is cheap and simple. However, as the order quantity and level are completely dependent on humans, the error probability is high. If this process is done with the help of drones, the error rate decreases to zero.”

A WAREHOUSE OF 10 THOUSAND PALLETS CAN BE COUNTED IN 8 HOURS

Various robot companies provide counting services, enabling a logistics warehouse of 10 thousand pallets to count in 8 hours with the help of drones. Drones read the barcode on the pallet and transfer the information in this barcode to the logistics company's system. Thanks to these operations with drones, both time is saved and the works are handled without encountering any problems.
