The study introduces an original index designed to measure the level of digitalization of SMEs. This newly developed index enables the analysis of firms’ digitalization levels at both micro and macro levels, thereby filling a significant gap in the literature.
The main contribution of the study lies in offering a structure that allows for detailed and comparable measurement at the firm and segment levels, unlike existing digitalization indices. In this way, the digital maturity levels of publicly listed SMEs can be more clearly identified.
Another important contribution of the index is that, based on its findings, it provides guidance for businesses to plan their digital transformation strategies more effectively, while also enabling policymakers to develop more targeted and efficient support mechanisms.
