Expert Clinical Psychologist Kahraman Güler discussed the impact of television on people.
Expert Clinical Psychologist Kahraman Güler, talking about the impact of television on people by referring to Murat Özdemir, who became famous in a cooking contest, said: “People are now participating in television programs in order to be noticed. Because television programs have become a playground for people to show themselves.”
Murat Özdemir, who became famous with a food contest, shared a video social media where he tortures a parrot, after he was disqualified from the competition. Speaking about the impact of social media and television on people and the behavioral disorders as a result of this, Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Department of Psychology Lecturer Clinical Psychologist Kahraman Güler stated that people now participate in television programs to show themselves, to be seen or to be loved.
“THEY TRY TO BE VALUED THROUGH REPUTATION”
Clinical Psychologist Güler stated that these people have considered television programs as a playground. He continued: “This is manifested in people who have been punished, neglected, abused by their parents in childhood, who have not had enough empathy, who were not loved enough or those who were spoiled. They consider that they have the right to do anything in order to get love and attention. The basic sense of emptiness here is not being really loved or feeling weak and having an intense anger. For this reason, they want to be valued by fame, money and reputation. So they try to cover up the blank side in them. And the television programs have become a playground for people to show themselves within this context. After the elimination from the program, frustration and embarrassment emerge. For this reason, they display a grandiose attitude, trying to overcome this disappointment and create their own values.”
WHAT REALLY IMPORTANT IS FOR THEM TO BE APPROVED
Clinical Psychologist Güler said that these people only want to be approved by other people. He added: “So they use all the possible means. It is not important for them how and where. What really important is to be notified by someone.”
LACK OF CONSCIENCE AND EMPATHY IS A VERY IMPORTANT PROBLEM
Clinical Psychologist Güler said: “The point that should be considered here is the lack of conscience and empathy. We talk about lack of empathy and conscience in the organization of anti-social personality. The main purpose here is to establish superiority over others, to make other people feel scared and to put self at the forefront. If an individual harms another living being after the age of 13-14, if he / she is behaving improperly, we call this behavioral disorder. This constitutes the infrastructure of the anti-social personality organization. What I see here is that this person has anti-social behavior.”
“THESE PEOPLE HAVE NO LIMITS”
Clinical Psychologist Güler noted that human beings need limits: ”Our freedom and freedom of others have limits. Human beings need to know their limits in order to be a human. To give a child more value and more love than he/she can handle ruins the child, also not giving the needed love has the same impact. This is balance disorder. And those people have balance disorders. These people have no limits and they do not respect animal rights. They interpret everything as if they exist for them and they can harm as they want, use however they want. They do not think that others may suffer or get hurt, but they enjoy doing it to others. They talk about the crimes they have committed and the evil they do with pleasure.”
