Students who take the course Financial Globalization at International Trade Department from Associate Professor Dr. Çiğdem Boz have visited financial center of Turkey, Istanbul Stock Exchange (BIST). Associate Professor Dr. Çiğdem Boz said that there have been various changes and innovations in Istanbul Stock Exchange after globalization and therefore it was a good example for Financial Globalization course and emphasized that students’ visit was very important.
Alper Ayden , expert instructor of Istanbul Stock Exchange provided information about the history, structure and operation of the stock market. Ayden said that the changes in technology caused significant changes in stock exchange transactions. Students had the opportunity to get answers to their questions about the functioning of the stock market. Alper Ayden 's presentation provided important information about the stock market and students were very much interested. The students then visited Stock Exchange Istanbul and the trading hall. Thus, our students had the opportunity to reinforce the knowledge they learned in the course. We hereby thank Head Specialist Alper Ayden for informing our students by making an effective presentation.

SHORT INFORMATION ABOUT STOCK EXCHANGE ISTANBUL

Stock Exchange Istanbul (BIST) was opened in 1986 under the name of Istanbul Stock Exchange. In 1989, enabling the foreign investors to be traded on the stock exchange was the turning point. Another important development was the start of remote access in 2001. Starting from that date, it has become possible to make transactions from anywhere on the Internet. The third important development was the provision of significant revenues as a result of public offerings in 2000. On April 5, 2013, the name was changed as “Stock Exchange Istanbul”. On February 24, 2017, all shares in the state-owned assets were transferred to Turkish Sovereign Wealth Fund.

The main purpose and activity of Stock Exchange Istanbul, which brings all the stock markets under a single roof is;  “Within the framework of the provisions of the law and the relevant legislation; bring together all capital markets instruments, foreign exchange and precious metals and other contracts, documents and assets deemed appropriate by the Capital Market Board under the conditions of free competition, conveniently and freely, in a transparent, effective, competitive, honest and stable form in order to create, sell and develop in, markets, platforms and systems to establish and promote the resulting prices, and to establish and develop these markets; managing and / or operating these and other exchanges or the markets of stock exchanges and other works written in their articles of association.”
