Students Increased Awareness for Stray Animals
Istanbul Gelisim University Public Relations and Publicity Students pointed out the basic problems of stray animals with the project ”Your life is our life”. The project was prepared by Ceren Hatice Yağlı, Faruk Ekrem Şafak and Melih Utkun, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. İpek Sucu and it provided more information about what can be done for stray animals and what measures could be taken to reduce physical and psychological violence towards the stray animals. Within the scope of the project, which was initiated with the aim of removing the problems in the housing, nutrition and health of stray animals;  food, health and shelter materials were collected with the support of the students and these materials were provided to stray animals in Beylikdüzü and Avcılar. A total of 90 kilograms of dog food, 70 kilograms of cat food and 20 kilograms of canned animal food were distributed, about 80 animals were fed and shelter requirements of 10 animals were met.

In Istanbul, there are over 100 thousand stray dogs and thousands of street cats. The past research of institutions such as the World Health Organization support the current data, and it is assumed that the current situation is even worse. Factors such as the number of shelter, the negativities experienced by stray animals, violence and harassment reveal that people should take more responsibility about stray animals.
