DURING THE PANDEMIC, WOMEN HAD TO TAKE A BREAK FROM THEIR ACADEMIC WORK

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on social sciences has been studied. Commenting on the subject, Asst. Prof. Dr. Viktoriia Demydova noted that "housework, child care, elderly care and quarantine have increased the mental health issues of the female faculty members and reduced the time allocated by them to academic studies."

Examination of the Istanbul Gelisim University Journal of Social Sciences in the period between 2021 and 2022 shows that COVID-19 had an effect on the activities of researchers. Vice editor of the IGU Journal of Social Sciences Asst. Prof. Dr. Viktoriia Demydova said ‘’social scientists had to adapt their work to the pandemic period. Pandemic facilitated studies of pandemic policies, family relations, student problems, online education, business and employment problems, as well as consumption”. "At the same time, researchers have come to a dead end by facing numerous obstacles to their work, such as isolation, social distancing and travel restrictions brought by the pandemic," Dr. Demydova said.
Dr. Demydova also emphasized that IGU Journal of Social Sciences provided a platform for the studies devoted to the impact of the virus and thus the pandemic. For instance, share of research related to social media platforms has grown that can be explained be the lockdowns and distant work and education. Another example is the studies examining the effect of the pandemic on family relations and particularly domestic violence. Thus, in the case of IGUJSS, it was understood that the pandemic opened new horizons for the research at many levels, from micro to macro, in the field of social life, consumption, normalization, hate speech, business life, risks, education and policies.
