Guterres also noted that over the past 20 years, the African Union (AU) has helped bring this hope to life in order to pave the way for the continent to realize its tremendous potential. In this context, Guterres first emphasized the importance of the African Vaccine Acquisition Task Force (AVATT) and the benefits of greater vaccine production in South Africa and other African countries. Second, Guterres stated that Member States must ignite the engine of economic recovery by reforming the financial system in the world. Third, the UN chief highlighted a continent-wide green recovery. Finally, the UN chief said that continent-wide peace can also serve as an engine for recovery.
