NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg Declared NATO Priorities

Stoltenberg attended an online event at Stanford University in California on March 9th, 2021. He set out NATO’s top priorities and discussed with former NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller on NATO’s adaptation.

Stoltenberg, initially, highlighted the importance of the increasing commitment of US government to NATO and expressed that the most significant issue in 2021 NATO Summit would be the NATO 2030 agenda addressing how to consolidate deterrence and defense capability in Europe and in NATO.  Further, he drew attention to the expansion of security agenda beyond military threats and to its spillover into economic and political sphere.  Therefore, according to him, NATO should focus on resilience, critical infrastructure – 5G telecommunication networks – and maintanance of NATO’s technological edge. Particularly striking was the subject, that the name of Turkey was referred 15 times throughout the virtual meeting.
