 Three Seas Initiative in 2021




The Three Seas Initiative, which is also known as the Baltic, Adriatic, Black Sea (BABS) Initiative, or simply just the Three Seas is a forum of the European Union’s 12 states along a north–south axis from the Baltic Sea to the Adriatic Sea and the Black Sea in Central and Eastern Europe. The purpose of Initiative is building a regional dialogue on diverse issues that affect the member states. Austria, Latvia, Croatia, Poland, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Romania, Lithuania, Slovakia and Slovenia are the member states of the Initiative. Member states met for their first summit in 2016 in Dubrovnik.

The Three Seas Initiative aspires to promote cooperation for the development of infrastructure in the energy, transport and digital sectors by targeting new investments, economic growth, energy security and achieving climate goals. While being a platform to provide strong political support for accelerated economic development and improved intra-regional and cross-border cooperation and connectivity among its members as well as the US, The Three Seas Initiative aims to lead to the upgrading and modernization of crucial infrastructure connections of the region.
